The Question:
My ex-husband has remarried as of December 17, 2022. How do I go about getting the alimony payments to stop.
Rich Says:
So long as your Court Orders do not say otherwise, your obligation to pay your husband spousal maintenance does cease upon his remarriage. Be careful to confirm that he did in fact remarry. I have had experience with a spouse going through the marriage ceremony, but not actually filing the wedding license with the State. In that instance, it is not a true marriage, and spousal maintenance would not cease.
If he has remarried, then you would need to file a Petition to Terminate Spousal Maintenance.
